Photographic capture of visual material can be an important part of the creative graphics development process. Direct digital capture via digital photography is fast becoming the norm. This class provides an introduction to the technology of digital photography as well as the fundamentals of composition and image editing. This class is designed to familiarize you with the technology of digital cameras and basic techniques of photography. Emphasis will be placed on learning to "see" and to use a digital camera to create dynamic imagery and create photographs beyond what would be considered a “Snapshot.”

Student Learning Objectives
A fundamental understanding of camera operation.
An understanding of basic digital photography terminology.
An understanding of exposure, composition and lighting.
A basic understanding of digital image editing through Adobe Photoshop and Bridge.

Procedures
Class time will include lectures and hands-on experience with digital cameras and computer editing. The textbook will be used as a reference tool with some required reading. All photo assignments will be critiqued and discussed in class.
